Four Section of IELTS

  • Listening: As the first part of the IELTS exam, the listening section consists of four sections, each containing 10 questions. Over the next 30 minutes, you’ll listen to audio recordings and respond to questions in formats like short answer, summary, and multiple-choice.
  • Reading: The Reading section, spanning 60 minutes, features various question types, such as summary, short answer, multiple-choice, sentence completion, and true or false. These questions are based on three texts totaling approximately 2,000–2,500 words, resulting in 40 questions overall.
  • Writing: The writing section is the third part of the IELTS exam, lasting 60 minutes and comprising two tasks. In this section, you may be asked to describe a chart, write an essay, or draft a letter. While the tasks differ between academic and general training, the first task requires a minimum of 150 words, and the second task demands at least 250 words.
  • Speaking: The Speaking section is the final part of the IELTS exam and is structured as a three-part oral interview. In the first task, you’ll introduce yourself to the interviewer. The second task requires you to discuss a given topic for 1-2 minutes after a 1-minute preparation period. Lastly, the third task involves a two-way discussion with the interviewer, delving into issues related to the topic card.

Modules of PTE

Part 1

The Speaking & Writing module of the PTE test evaluates both your speaking and writing skills, with a strong emphasis on grammar proficiency. To excel in this section, regular practice is key. This part of the test lasts 54–67 minutes, making it the longest section. It includes seven different question types that assess your ability to use English in an academic setting. The speaking tasks include Read Aloud, Repeat Sentence, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, and Answer Short Question. The writing tasks consist of two components: Summarize Written Text and Essay. This module provides a comprehensive evaluation of your speaking and writing abilities, ensuring you are well-prepared for academic communication.

Part 2

The Reading section of the PTE test lasts 29–30 minutes and includes five distinct question types designed to assess your reading and comprehension skills. These tasks involve activities such as filling in the blanks, reordering paragraphs, and answering multiple-choice questions. Notably, both reordering paragraphs and filling in the blanks are crucial for scoring, so it’s essential to focus on these components. As PTE Academic is an integrated skills test, one item type, “Reading and Writing: Fill in the Blanks,” also evaluates your writing skills. The question types in this section include: Reading & Writing: Fill in the Blanks, Multiple Choice (Multiple Answer), Re-order Paragraphs, Fill in the Blanks, and Multiple Choice (Single Answer).

Part 3

The Listening module of the PTE test lasts 30–43 minutes and consists of eight distinct question types designed to assess your listening comprehension. Participants are exposed to audio and video clips, each typically lasting 60 to 90 seconds. These clips play automatically, and you will hear them only once. During the test, you can take notes to aid your responses. The question types include: Summarize Spoken Text, Multiple Choice (Multiple Answers), Fill in the Blanks, Highlight Correct Summary, Multiple Choice (Single Answer), Select Missing Word, Highlight Incorrect Words, and Write from Dictation. You will have 10 minutes to provide written answers for each task, allowing you to develop a well-rounded understanding of the test format.
